New York, New York
On April 19th, 2015, a girl and her two big bags got to Bed-Stuy late in the evening. She was standing on the sidewalk in that unknown neighborhood, holding her phone and texting her host that she was there. "What if they don't get back to me?", she asked herself getting anxious for the lack of feedback, wondering what she could do. She was by herself in a new place, in a new country, with a whole new life to build from scratch. What if things started going wrong, badly wrong, since the very beginning? She knew she could rely on herself only. She knew her choice would have a lot of unexpected consequences she would have to tackle alone. She knew, from there on, her only option was moving forward. And, yes, she was scared for putting herself in that position. Scared as hell.
Until the door behind her opened and a smiley face popped up, welcoming her to her first temporary NYC home.
I don't think being fearless means never being scared. I think it means getting to a point where you can control your fear and use it as energy to make your dreams come true. Two years ago, I was that scared girl on the sidewalk. Today, I pride myself for being a bit like the #fearlessgirl and I can say: I DID IT.
