🎞Try to see the big picture🎞
Ok, maybe the hint to my first completed 6-piece-instagram-profile-picture was tacky, but it's very important in songwriting.📝 I have experienced so many songwriters that write just... stuff. Sentences that rhyme, words that flow, refrains that are hooky, but in the grand sceme of things the songs are just🔜 meh!
How is this possible?
Well... It is simple not enough to write sentences that rhyme, because after all:
1⃣Who cares about sentences that rhyme?
2⃣Who cares about words that flow?
3⃣Who cares about refrains that are hooky?
Let me tell you! Not a single person! Not a single listener gives a s**t about one of these things, unless there is a MEANING that comes with it.
Take Rhiannas Hitsong (written by Justin Timberlake) for example: "Under my umbrella-ella-ella" ☔ is simply more than words. It's a creative interpretation of everyones deep desire to have somebody who is there for you:
1⃣It's a catchy phrase
2⃣It's a very rare keyword in a love song
3⃣It's a great hook
4⃣It's a very singable melody
5⃣It has a very creative repedition
6⃣It has a very distinctive rhythm
7⃣It has a very touchy meaning
8⃣...and the whole song is very well thought through and leaves you with a lot to sing, to think about and a good feeling.
It's an overall great song, if you are able to see 🕵the big picture. If you don't see it in your songs, they are crap. It's that simple. Well... to not leave you with a bad taste in your mouth after reading this: A lot of my songs are crappy as well. Shit 🚽 happens!
Agree? Disagree? Let me know!
Keep on songwriting, 🎼🖋
