“I lost my mom when I was 22 and she was 52. She had a sudden heart attack. She was fit, healthy, we even had a treadmill at her house and she would walk every day. So entering my adult life and not having her was really hard. Fitness actually helped me a lot because it made me stay focused. Pushing myself to have stronger physical, outer-strength helped make my inner-strength stronger. Like at the end of the class, the instructors ask, ‘What’s on the other side for you?’ I actually see my mom. So I run to her. I always try to pick it up and give it all I got. I can’t necessarily tell you if there’s a specific thought because it’s more like this force inside that gets me moving. I think it’s my mom.”
