Sometimes the hardest part of exercise can be admitting you're injured and taking the time to recover. Even when we know better, our drive to challenge ourselves and be faster, go harder, or lift heavier can so easily cloud our judgement and push our bodies past their limits.
This is something I've been struggling with the past couple months. I tweaked what I think is my bicep tendon while snatching an 85lb bar back in February and it's still lingering. And I'm really noticing it this week. So I've decided it's time to start listening to this sign from my body and give it the time and support to heal. A friend at Crossfit gave me some words of wisdom earlier this week: "No one else cares what weight you're lifting. Only you." That really resonated with me. The only person putting the pressure on myself to go hard is me. .
So tonight, instead of lifting weights, I checked my ego and chose to hike a nearby trail. And wow, it was an incredible hike. The wild flowers were in bloom, the sun set was spectacular, and there was an energetic wind gusting through the canyon. What started as a hike became a truly inspiring evening of appreciating and connecting with nature.
Listen to your body and respect the signs it's giving you. Symptoms are the best solution your body has come up with to deal with a problem, so it's up to you to acknowledge them and work with your body to create a better solution. That's how you heal and build a strong body that will last you a lifetime 💜
